Immune responses in vole and man during hantavirus infections
Research description: We aim att understanding the pathogenesis in humans during Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS), caused by hantaviruses. It is believed that HFRS/HPS is immunomediated diseases, but the mechanims behind pathogenesis are currently unknown. We studie the effect of hantavirus infections on the innate and the adaptive immunity, and compare infections of the vole (natural host for Puumala hantavirus) and HFRS-patients (infected with Puumala hantavirus). The goal of this project is to understand how and when hantavirus interacts with the immune defence. Understanding this would greatly enhance the chance of obtaining specific treatmnets and vaccines agaisnt HFRS/HPS
