Public and International Health

Welcome to the research network for Public and International Health!

The aim of this network is to strengthen research within the field - by stimulating interdepartmental and interdisciplinary cooperation and exchange of information. KI-PIH is an open network for all interested researchers at KI. The network's steering group, a well-balanced collection of researcher of a wide range of sub-fields, organises activities that will support new holistic approaches within public and international health.

The goals of KI-PIH are to:

·         Maximise synergy effects and minimise unnecessary work duplication

·        Give researchers from different disciplines the chance to develop their contact networks, meet prospective cooperation partners, etc.

·        Make it easier to mobilise resources including funding - to strengthen the position of participating researchers vis-à-vis important sources of funding.

If you have any ideas or comments regarding the activities of the network please mail us at KI-PIH@ki.se.

Report:
EU as Global Health actor  Nobel Forum Seminar, December 4, 2009

The Karolinska Institutet in cooperation with the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, and Global Health Europe held a meeting December 4th  under the Swedish EU Presidency on the strategic way forward for the European approach to global health development.

A multisectoral approach was necessary as global health entails concepts of justice and humanity as well as biomedicine. The meeting brought together representatives from European key actors in global health, such as EU institutions, national authorities, academia and civil society. Representatives for authorities/organizations from countries under development also participated.

The meeting was a great success! Big questions such as impact of climate change on health in different parts of the world, and antimicrobial resistance was discussed by leading international experts. The meeting was opened by the Swedish health minister Maria Larssson, and held at Nobel Forum at KI. Global health is becoming a critical part of the education, research and moral mission of universities. The host university is Sweden´s largest centre for medical research and teaching, and puts a lot of efforts into research in order to improve the Global Health.
